Asst Director: Foundation Studies
An Assistant Academic Director (Assistant AD) is a primary academic staff member for the Foundation Studies curriculum. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: support of the day-to-day operations, assisting students toward successful course completion and staffing the classroom with instructors who support the mission of the college. The Assistant AD provides support to the Academic Director for the fiscal well being of the department as it relates to education.
Foundation Studies are important core classes that students in all majors are required to take to strenghen the fundamental skills required for their program.
The preferred candidate must hold a master’s degree in an area related to design and/or education, demonstrate a commitment to student development issues as related to the first-year college experience.. Minimum three year’s experience in a teaching or educational adminstration environment in postsecondary education.
Incumbent must assure that the EDMC philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking and expansion - is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Key Job Elements:
1. Provide support to, or act in place of, academic leadership.
2. Teach at least two classes each quarter in the foundation studies curriculum area.
3. Delivers learner-centered instruction and contributes to a culture of learning that values mutual responsibility, life long learning, diversity and ethics as well as personal and professional development.
4. Assist in the selection, training, development and management of faculty team members according to the guidelines provided by the Dean of Academic Affairs.
5. Assist in the Planning and implementation of a budget including personnel requirements, program expenses, and capital needs.
6. Support college programs designed to achieve student persistence, Student/Instructor ratio and FLE targets as outlined in the college’s annual budget and five year strategic plan.
7. Provide support to college and community relations activities as directed by, or in the absence of, the ADD.
8. Collaborate with Academic Directors and Academic Team within own school and across schools: quarterly course scheduling, sharing faculty, and other.
9. Other responsibilities as determined by the Academic Director.

a) Ability to interact successfully with academic as well as business and regulatory personnel.
b) Work effectively as either a leader or team member to insure that departmental goals are met by providing support to staff regardless of program designations and always keeping students’ and graduates’ best interest as a priority.
