Adult Basic Ed Teacher

Plan and provide direct individual and group instruction to adult students who are improving basic skills in listening/speaking, reading, math, and writing. Teach Transition level ESL learners 5 mornings a week and the GED/Bruch-Up level students two evening a week. Students are improving their English skills, and study skills as they prepare for their next steps (preparing for the GED examination, completing an adult diploma or preparing to enter post-secondary training or employment). Duties include ongoing assessment, monitoring student attendance, student record keeping, site participation as a team member and management of classroom support through volunteers and literacy assistants. Facilitate independent and group student learning. Facilitate ABE enrollment, distance learning options and integrate technology into learning.

Minimum Qualifications: Current MN Teaching License. Ability to be flexible and function well in a busy environment. Ability to work as a team member.

Preferred Qualifications :
Experience working with diverse populations preferred. Experience in an ABE academic program, training in Cooperative Learning preferred. Experience with distance learning, integrating technology instruction preferred. Experience teaching adult ESL preferred. Experience teaching reading and math preferred. Computer experience with MS Office, Word, Excel, internet, email, and adult educational software is preferred.

Rate of pay: $24.50/hour.

Start Date: 7/1/11 with training dates ASAP after closing.

Duty Days/Shift :

Full-Time 12 months/220 days/7 hrs a day

Position hours: Monday - Friday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday evenings

Class times: Monday - Friday 9:00 am-12:30 pm and Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6:00-8:30 pm
