UMass Medical School's department of Medicine has a full time Staff Accountant opportunity that will work under the direction of the Department Administrator.
This position is responsible for performing diversified and complex administrative/accounting duties in support of federal, state and private agency grants and contracts and various other departmental funds. Also provides administrative support to Administrator in the areas of account reconciliations, monthly financial reports and budget preparation.
Major responsibilities include the following: Maintain computerized accounting reconciliations for the accurate management of fundsResponsible for the monthly reconciliation to University's Financial Reporting systemEnsure that accounts are not overcommitted or overspent and that budgetary guidelines are followedPrepare expenditure projectionsPrepare monthly reconciliation of funds for departmental reserve and sub-accounts as well as other department accounts. Post earnings Process consultant agreements, travel vouchers, PO's and invoices; coordinate the preparation of Accounts Payable source documents for payment; monitor expenses for timeliness and appropriateness; refer problems to the AdministratorEnsure accurate and timely reallocation of all Procard expenses. Involves overseeing and training department secretaries acting as reallocatorsAct as resource for extramural funding, providing information and assistance in obtaining and completing required forms and necessary approvalsProvide administrative assistance to department administrator and the recognized designee in their absencePerforms other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business or equivalent and three years relevant work experienceDemonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial documents such as system reportsExcellent communication skills (both oral and written)Demonstrated knowledge of use of personal computers for spreadsheet, database and word-processing tasksManual dexterity, visual acuity, no unusual physical requirements. Must be able to carry out essential functions of the position, with reasonable accommodation if disabled.
