Job ID: 300Position Description: This position is the primary student contact for programs of the Education Department of the various brands supported by EDMC Online Higher Education for a diverse group of students who are pursuing a degree 100% online. The Academic Advisor is the key student advocate and is responsible for managing customer relations with each assigned student. Key job elements include establishing rapport with students, academic advisement, scheduling, monitoring student academic process, program persistence, implementing the student communication plan, and resolving student academic problems are key job elements of this position. The Academic Advisor works closely with the Director of Academic Advising and Operations, Director of Training for Academic Advising and Effectiveness, and other Academic Affairs staff the student is attending. There is also collaboration with the brand school’s Admissions, Student Financial, Accounting and Registration departments. Due to the fixed deadlines and peak periods each academic quarter, the incumbent of this position must be available to work evenings and weekends. This position is based in the Pittsburgh office of EDMC Online Higher Education.Key Job Elements:1. Establishes rapport with students to ensure students feel they have a partner in achieving their academic goal of graduation.2. Implements advising communication plan.3. Problem-solves, proactively, to ensure student persistence.4. Serves as a liaison between the school and students with respect to communicating and advising on degree requirements, options and progress, and also provides students with access to information on school policy, practices and rules. 5. Ensures students are oriented to University policies and services.6. Serves as an initial contact for 100% online students to resolve academic questions/problems, and refer students to the appropriate brand school’s staff member as necessary.7. Provides course scheduling and participation monitoring for 100% online students.8. Responsible for maintaining student persistence at defined levels for assigned programs.9. Contacts new 100% online students prior to the beginning of each quarter to ensure student readiness for classes (online orientation, textbooks, etc.)10. Audits student schedules for candidacy for graduation, as determined by school policy, and provides related information to appropriate campus personnel as requested. 11. Assists Online Academic Program Directors with student initiatives dedicated to a specific major.12. Assists with for EDMC Online Higher Education projects as directed by the Director of Academic Advising and Operations and the Vice-President of Education of Academic Affairs 13. Maintain/update orientation materials for new students.14. Articulates ideas and recommendations to EDMC OHE on how to improve student success.Position Requirements:Position Specifications:• Bachelor’s degree in a field applicable to the specific job responsibilities; Master’s degree preferred• Prior experience in customer service and managing customer relations.• Prior experience in academic advising, counseling, or student services preferred• Prior experience in distance/online education/ Commitment to the online educational environment preferred• Excellent oral and written communication skills• Excellent organizational skills; detail-oriented• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with various constituencies and within and across teams.• Ability to meet strict deadlines and flexibility during peak periods.• Proficiency with basic technology; proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and the World Wide Web; willingness to develop proficiency related to using the EDMC OHE virtual campus, student information systems and various software programs.• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills• Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and under time constraints.
