Manufacturing Process Engineer

Manufacturing Process Engineer Polymask (a subsidiary of 3M’s Industrial, Adhesives and Tape division responsible for producing protective tapes) has an immediate opening in Conover, NC for a Manufacturing Process Engineer.   3M PolyMask is a leading manufacturer of temporary surface protection tapes and a major supplier to worldwide markets such as automotive, consumer electronics, building & construction and metals fabricating. Located in Conover, NC,  Polymask has been manufacturing protective tapes for over 25 years.   This position will provide technical and process leadership for the coating and slitting departments to implement programs to improve safety, quality, production efficiency, capacity, reliability and cost.1.  Scope, implement, and manage small to medium capital projects. Execute these from engineering through start-up and full operation.  Participate on cross-functional teams for large scale capital projects as required. 2.  Actively utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and statistical tools to identify opportunities and lead programs to improve key performance metrics: · Operating efficiency · Rates · Process yield · Equipment runtime and downtime 3.  Develop a partnership and a cooperative effort with product development and quality departments to accomplish:· Resolution of product complaints· Setting up new specifications and raw materials· Working with suppliers on quality, service and cost4.  Provide technical support to Production and Plant Engineering on daily operational issues. 5.  Assure process safety on process changes, operational safety procedures, and materials.  Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will be an experienced Chemical or Mechanical Process Engineer with a strong manufacturing or equipment background.  Experience in coating, winding, slitting and web handling is a plus.  The following are strongly desired qualifications:· Demonstrated experience in best manufacturing practices (i.e. Six Sigma, Lean, SPC).· Ability to manage multiple activities and meet time constraints.· Ability to work in multi-disciplinary team and individual settings. Must have initiative and complete work with minimal supervision.· Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
