Fast Growing Consumer Products Manufacturer in the Portland Metro Area seeks experienced Lean Manufacturing Engineer to join its expanding team. 400 million dollar operation with key manufacturing facility here in Portland needs Lean leader for this role. This individual must be a change agent who has experience with the Implementation of Lean Principles. Summary:
In this position, you will insure successful ongoing operations at the manufacturing facility. Requires extensive knowledge of manufacturing plant operations including “Lean manufacturing”, “5 S” “just in time” and “Flow” principles as well as plant layout and cell design. Assist in accomplishing “best in class” in quality, delivery and value to achieve production consistent with Company objectives while maintaining a safe, clean, organized high quality work environment with respect for all employees.
Key Functions:
· Promotes a safe, organized, productive, and efficient working environment.
· Optimizes plant layout IE Cells, Flow designs.
· Monitors production output and processes with an eye to utilizing continuous improvement tools including Lean and Six Sigma, to implement process improvements that will reduce cycle time, process variation, defects, changeover time, lead time, and overall manufacturing cost.
· Researches and develops methods to increase productivity, and reduce non-value-added processes with increasing quality.
· Resolves production issues by determining the cause of manufacturing defects or reworks and making recommendations to correct and resolve the problems.
· Champions and drives new technologies.
· Trains and mentors factory employees in basic lean manufacturing and quality system concepts, helping them to understand, embrace, and utilize those skills.
· Works with maintenance to resolve any environmental issues that result from the manufacturing process.
· Maintains and continuously improves quality of factory operations.
· Identifies and implements key Lean/Six-Sigma metrics, estimating financial impact of projects, providing follow-up, updates and reports to management.
· Utilizes team-based approach to elicit employee participation in the development of systems that improve the business.
Education & Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
· Ten years of manufacturing experience.
· Five years experience in lean manufacturing driving continuous process improvements, including 5S and cell design.
· Must have experience with cellular manufacturing.
·Thorough understanding and working experience relative to the ISO-9001 Quality System requirements.
Qualifications:
Proficient in MS Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint.Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar program required.Proven ability to drive (cultural) change; challenges the status quo and looks for ways to improve team and organizational performance; champions new initiatives and stimulates others to make changes.Proven ability to analyze problems and make decisions; effectively analyzes issues and makes sound, logical business decisions in a timely manner.Strong achievement orientation; demonstrates strong personal drive, initiative and persistence; is motivated by challenges and determined in the face of setbacks.Effective interpersonal skills; develops and maintains working relationships with a diverse spectrum of people/customers (ex. leadership, peers, internal and external customers etc.); conveys respect for others perspectives and contributions; demonstrates that maintaining effective working relationships is a priority.Solid verbal and written communication skills.Project management skills required.Working knowledge of safety and environmental regulatory requirements including NIOSH and OSHA required.Bi-lingual ability a plus.
