Owens Illinois (O-I) is in need of an experienced Electronic Design Engineer to work within an R&D Inspection Development Team, providing electronic hardware development for our inspection systems. This position requires a team-oriented person who will be responsible for the development, modification, and upgrades for our automated inspection systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop electronic hardware for automated vision based inspection systems. Work with inspection teams on algorithm and concept developments. Design and troubleshoot real time inspection system components. Support firmware design and implementation. Integrate electrical system components to support vision systems. Develop new systems and modifications or upgrades to existing systems. Some domestic and international travel will be required to glass plants, customers and suppliers (10-20%).



Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics or Computer Science Engineering.



Experience: Experience in design and construction of prototype electronic hardware. Experience in VHDL programming for FPGA devices. Experience in PLD programming. Experience in PLC programming.



Computer Software Knowledge/Skills: Applications: Microsoft Office, schematic capture.



Communication Skills: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work independently and as a member of a cross functional team.



Other Qualifications: Good Decision Making, Judgment, Adaptability, Results Focus, Work Quality and Organization.



Desirable Qualifications: Experience with and interest in optical systems. Experience with real-time embedded control systems. AutoCAD familiarity. Master of Science degree. Successful experience generating and communicating various concepts to solve technical issues.
