We’re looking for a Customs & Compliance Specialist to support Fellowes global import and export activities and to ensure compliance with U.S. and foreign customs laws and regulations by auditing, maintaining, and performing all activities associated with Fellowes import programs.
Responsibilities
· Ensure that all imports are classified correctly and that we have uniform global classifications. Compiling all NAFTA, assists, country of origin forms/data and reporting on other key performance indicators such as C-TPAT compliance are integral parts of the position.
· Audit Import entries. Scrutinize entry documentation to ensure timely customs clearance.
· Prepare "Assist" reports, monthly reconciliation that insures any assist we have is claimed by Fellowes to U.S. Customs.
· C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism): Partner with Department of Homeland Security to build cooperative relationships that strengthen and improve overall international supply chain. Provide C-TPAT reporting required to maintain certification and validation. Participate in a comprehensive self-assessment of the supply chain security procedures using the C-TPAT security criteria or guidelines.
· Maintain master parts list. Classification of products using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) according to General Rules of Interpretation (GRI's), Binding Rulings, Explanatory Notes, Informed Compliance Publications, Reasonable Care Guides, and other established Customs information.
· Review the activities of international carriers, consolidators, customs brokers and freight forwarders to meet all compliance and regulatory requirements.
· Research customs rulings for application to Fellowes products.
· Respond to inquiries regarding classification, duty rates, documentation requirements, or other import regulation to ensure timely clearance.
· Prepare and collect NAFTA certificates.
· Assist in developing and maintaining policies, procedures and instruction manual to assure compliance with U.S. and other Customs laws, regulations and administrative practices. Identify new procedures and methods to expedite clearance of import shipments, delivery to the customer, and cost savings plans for the efficient and compliant operation of the import department.
· Maintain good relationships and cooperate actively with Purchasing, Finance, Logistics, freight forwarders, customhouse brokers, government bodies and their representatives including U.S. Customs, U.S Department of Commerce, and Department of Homeland Security.
Requirements
· Associate's degree preferred; 3-5 years work experience
· Solid knowledge and understanding of customs laws and regulations
· Understanding of Incoterms, the Customs Modernization Act (Mod Act), the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP,) the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT,) the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA,)
· Highly organized and analytical with high attention to detail
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong PC skills with Oracle experience a plus
· Customer service oriented
