Category Manager - Promotions

Gerber Legendary Blades is a market leading brand in knives, multi-tools, lighting, and essential gear for the outdoor enthusiast. We have an immediate need for a Customer Promotions Marketing Category Manager position at our Portland, Oregon office.

 

This position has complete responsibility for managing Gerber’s quarterly and customer-specific promotional business, and is therefore the company expert on these products. This includes strategy, business and competitive analysis, new product planning, oversight of the category’s new product development, and working very closely with Sales and key customers in the creation and execution of relevant promotional products.

 

This role requires a person who is comfortable working in a rapidly changing market environment, enjoys taking on projects with big upside and high visibility, and can creatively work through unforeseen challenges. This person must be detail oriented and extremely well organized, as he or she will have to simultaneously stay on top of numerous projects that will each have their own time line and deliverable dates. The role requires a self-starter with excellent communications and follow-up skills. Finally, this person must have strong analytical skills, as they are responsible for understanding the business and communicating progress throughout the organization.

Experience

Passionate, driven leader with 3-5 years successful experience in product management, product merchandising, or retail buying.

Ability to communicate effectively with sales, customers and suppliers. Demonstrated ability to develop business plans, with consequent analytical and strategic skills. 

Experienced project leader and team player.

5+ years successful experience in product management or retail buying.

2+ years experience working with volume retailers.

2+ years experience working with Asian manufacturers.

Special Skills/Abilities

Communications, Business Analysis, Self Starter, Detail Focus

Ability to travel domestically to retail accounts and to Asia to work with manufacturing partners. Travel requirement: approx. 1 week/month, with 2-3 international trips/year.

MS Office fluency
