Category Development Manager

 

The Category Development Manager provides expertise in data analysis for the development of strategies that meet and/or exceed category expectations.  This position will be responsible for supporting National Accounts with data and analysis to make product mix, promotion and pricing decisions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIESSupports customer specific scorecarding requests, including analysis and interpretation of data.Assesses industry trends and competitive actions to develop alternative promotional offerings to maintain and improve competitive position with key customers.Prepares and updates standardized category presentations and syndicated data reports for customers and the organization.Conducts SKU optimization analyses and post-promotion analyses to quantify impact to brand and category.Leads the development of plan-o-grams and data based customer shelf strategies that deliver brand objectives at the lowest possible cost per case.Establishes business initiatives with the assigned key brands to improve sales and profits.Partners with internal departments, including marketing and sales, to sell distribution, merchandising and shelf initiatives to customer decision makers through utilization of technology, customer knowledge and relationships. 

 QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.  MBA degree preferred.Typically requires a minimum of 2 years experience in Consumer Packaged Goods or related industry.Demonstrated ability in in-depth analysis of sales, customer and consumer data, developing comprehensive business category development presentations and action plans, and consistently achieving desired results.Ability to interpret data and translate into presentations and other sales material.Understanding of syndicated data and relevant systems (AC Nielsen, IRI, Spectra).Knowledge of space management tools (Apollo, Spaceman, Prospace).Highly advanced analytical skills, knowledge and use of PC based applications (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and understanding of the category management process.Adept at developing and maintaining highly leveragable business building relationships with customers.This position will be located in San Diego but may require travel up to 50%.
