Accounting Assistant

AMES prides itself on its commitment to integrity of relationships; value added packaging, and attention to high quality standards.JOB DESCRIPTIONAccounts Payable:  Responsible for weekly check runs.

Accounts Receivable:  Full cycle accounts receivable including customer invoicing, monthly billing statements, reconciling accounts receivable at month end and handling all customer correspondence.  This also includes responsibility for our EDI program with selected customers who communicate with us electronically. Responsibility for understanding and monitoring various customer promotions as offered by the sales staff and posted on the company Share Point site, and reconciling customer payments to these promotions.  This will also include working with appropriate sales staff when customers take allowances and discounts to which we did not agree or do not have a promotion posted.

Collections: Responsible for monitoring outstanding customer balances on a daily basis and following up on delinquent customers per company collection policy.  Will also be a member of the collection committee which meets weekly to discuss customer accounts.

Credit Cards:  Responsible for reconciling all credit card payments received to appropriate customer accounts for phone and website orders.  Also responsible for daily monitoring and reconciling of Fraud Management systems in place for credit card payments

General Accounting:  There are several other general accounting duties including updating spreadsheets, tracking various costs and expenses, filing for the accounting and HR department and other similar duties that may be assigned.

Front Desk:  Responsible for greeting visitors at the front desk, receiving small packages, routing phone calls through the voice mail system when callers want to speak to a live operator, and various other front desk duties.

Backup:  Responsible to provide backup function to Accounting Manager and Accountant in the event of vacations and absences.  Will be cross-trained in applicable functions prior to serving as a backup.

QUALIFICATIONSExcellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English. 1-2 years previous AR experience required, with experience in dealing with allowances and bill backs a plusMust be a self starter.Detail oriented.   Sets priorities in a heavy workload without neglecting attention to detail.Excellent technical knowledge of MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer).  Must be able to quickly learn new applications as needed.
