Continuation Engineer / Electronic Hardware Design

SUMMARY The primary function of this position is to work with business units and technical support groups to provide continuation engineering support of existing electronic controls. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work with business units to expedite production changeovers and special orders; coordinate and implement changes into production; assist technical support groups with application questions/issues; resolve incoming, assembly, test or manufacturing issues; analyze field returns and recommend corrective action; identify and correct design issues; resolve issues with system level components and vendors; and maintain service parts for out of production products.As necessary travel to job sites to assist technical support groups, and local office field technicians in diagnosing and resolving potential design issues with Trane controls.Work to develop general support knowledge and skills for a broad range of Trane controls products. Work with electronic assembly and component vendors to maintain quality; control cost; resolve component sourcing and obsolescence issues; and coordinate and implement changes to product, production test systems, and equipment into production.Perform, test, and implement hardware circuit redesigns.Work with regulatory agencies to maintain compliance and documentation of products and obtain compliance of product changes.Participate in development projects in transition to production; aid in identifying support/production requirements of new products and opportunities for cost reduction.Effectively meet the needs of internal and external customers.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 4-Year Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering degree. Six Sigma (DFSS) certification Green Belt level or higher. Knowledge of electronics design and printed circuit board assembly. Good Electrical and Electronic skills with ability to readily read schematics for both panel and board level. Excellent people skills and ability to work with multiple BU's/vendors Ability to communicate with others both written and orally. Mobility within the work facility. Keyboarding. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREDUse of Windows PC environment engineering tools; Word, Excel Design/support of low-cost, high reliability electronics for the commercial environment. Design/support for manufacturability, product self-testing, and automated manufacturing test. Six Sigma Training, DFSSPHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to communicate with others both written and orally, including the telephone. Mobility within the work facility.
