Regional Operations Manager
SunEdison is North America's largest Solar Energy Service Provider, and operates across the global marketplace delivering turnkey, predictably priced renewable electricity services for commercial, government and utility customers without the capital outlays traditionally associated with solar solutions. Using proven technology, SunEdison delivers a complete service; we finance, install, own, operate and maintain photovoltaic power plants at the customer's facility.
SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
The Regional Operations Manager (ROM) is responsible for managing the project delivery process for a portfolio of projects within a region in order to achieve the performance goals of the organization. This includes maintaining awareness of projects in the Sales pipeline, coordinating the cross-functional activities during design, permitting, construction and final closing phases and ensuring the project is properly transferred to the Service organization management. The ROM is the operational lead of the regional delivery team, directing and prioritizing the activities of the project team members in order to support achieving the organizations quarterly performance plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manage the operational activities of cross-functional team members to ensure that the project portfolio is successfully delivered in order to achieve the quarterly performance goals of the organization. While functional responsibility remains with the functional leads of the regional team, prioritization and direction of the functional team members is the responsibility of the ROM.
· Maintain awareness of the sales pipeline to provide support from an EPC perspective and to support resource planning and project scheduling for the regional team.
· Prioritize and manage the activities of the cross-functional team during the design, permitting, construction and final closing phases of the project.
· Forecast, manage and execute the Final Closing process in order to achieve this milestone consistently and predictably.
· Support and encourage the implementation of the following principals in the operating culture of the region; (i) accurate schedule management, (ii) accurate cost management, (iii) quality workmanship and (iv) safe operations.
· Ensure the regional team is made aware of contractual requirements that need to be satisfied in order to be in compliance.
· Identify solutions to overcome both external and internal challenges that delay the successful and timely execution of the project delivery process.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports directly to the Director of Operations for their particular Region. This will require coordination with and management of several cross-functional team members.
QUALIFICATIONS
· 7+ years as a manager in an operational execution capacity, preferably in the construction, manufacturing or land development sectors. Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams in a project management capacity and successfully achieve defined performance goals.
· A BS in an operationally focused disciplined is required. An MBA a strong plus.
· Excellent analytical skills to be able decompose problems clearly and identify viable solutions taking schedule, cost and degree of risk into consideration.
· Strong diplomacy skills in order to communicate with and influence people at all levels - strong conflict negotiation skills a must.
· Extremely organized work habits with a record of successful delivery of a portfolio of projects as a team leader.
· Familiarity with formal project management methodologies as well as the manufacturing / construction project cycle is an advantage
· Must be comfortable playing a central role in a complex delivery process and have an ability to work on several projects in parallel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Regular (20%) travel by airplane and automobile in conducting business is required. Ability to communicate orally with customers, management, and other co-workers, both individually and in front of a group is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is expected.
WORK ENVIRONEMENT
The job is performed both indoors in a traditional office setting and outdoors traveling to and from project sites, permitting departments and/or customer offices. Will work in the designated regional operations office.
