Our continued success and company growth has created a need for mid level Network Operations Specialist to join Openband in our Stuttgart, Germany office. Candidates will work in a team oriented, fast paced environment with significant growth potential.

Network Operations Specialist will be required to operate in a multi-vendor environment (iDirect, Linkway, Cisco, 3Com, Tandberg, and potentially other) and support various networking configurations and technologies, such as TDMA-based star networks, TDMA-based mesh networks, terrestrial WAN, dynamic and static IP routing, and others. The Network Operations Specialist is responsible for:Network Infrastructure Configuration Management – develop, implement, and maintain network components configuration based on the Design Specifications, Network Infrastructure Profile, and the equipment-specific configuration procedures; perform configuration backup / archival; test and implement software upgrades procedures. Network Infrastructure Monitoring Policy Implementation – configure the Network Management System(s) to perform fault, performance, security and accounting/utilization monitoring of network infrastructure components based on the Design Specifications and the Network Infrastructure Monitoring Profile; test effectiveness and efficiency of implemented Monitoring Policies; participate in development of the Monitoring Profile, provide feedback to Engineering based on various operational scenarios;Network Infrastructure Maintenance – perform routine preventive maintenance activities, such as failover testing; perform configuration modifications / upgrades based on the established MPs; review and evaluate fault, performance and security logs generated by the infrastructure components;Advanced Troubleshooting – perform troubleshooting of fairly complex problems that can not be resolved by applying a set of pre-defined scripts (utilized by Tier-1 personnel) due to the impact of specific network operational conditions, non-standard customer/end-user equipment configuration / application requirements; equipment abnormal performance or malfunction; issues associated with services / infrastructure components provided by others (Telcos, etc).Required SkillsCandidates should possess a minimum of a four year B.S. or B.A. degree; or equivalent experience. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills required. Required Experience

Five plus years of experience working with the following:TransmissionEthernet LANs - configuration and performance, Virtual LANs (VLANs)Satellite Communications – basic understanding of VSAT RF links performance characteristics, configuration parameters and typical issues; basic understanding of TDMA operation and bandwidth allocation and Quality of Service (QoS) implications; TDMA network performance characteristics, configuration parameters and potential problems.WAN technologies – basic configuration, performance characteristics and troubleshooting of E1/T1, PPP, Frame Relay, basic ATM; Wireless (P2P and WIFI) – wireless LAN and P2P links performance characteristics, configuration parameters and typical issues;NetworkingIP and Routing – in-depth understanding of IP network operation, addressing, static and dynamic (RIP, OSPF, BGP) routing, tunneling, Network Address Translation (NAT);Quality of Service – basic understanding of traffic classification and prioritization / queuing mechanisms and per-hop processing;Security tools and mechanisms – understanding of Access Control Lists (ACLs), logging, authentication and authorization (e.g. RADIUS, TACACS); basic knowledge of IPSec and classified encryption protocols / appliances desirable;Applications and ServicesCommon Internet services and protocols – understanding of architecture, components, and operation/traffic flow of common Internet protocols and services, including DHCP, DNS, E-Mail, WWW, FTP. Real-time communications – basic understanding of architecture and core components of real-time communication protocols, such as SIP, H.323 and XMPP, and their application to VoIP, Instant Messaging and VTC services. Understanding of the dependencies on underlying protocols (e.g. DNS) and performance features and mechanisms (e.g. QoS). Network EquipmentArchitecture – basic understanding of functional components of various network equipment, such as satellite modems, routers, LAN switches;Resources and performance characteristics – basic understanding of key resources (memory, CPU, interface capacity), limitations and performance implications;Network Managment;Protocols and parameters – understanding of the fundamental concepts of SNMP and Syslog, information models and flow; mapping between performance characteristics and management protocol parameters.
