Field Engineer
Position Summary:
The position of Field Engineer introduces you to a variety of job site activities that will develop your understanding of WSCI’s construction process and management systems. As a Field Engineer, you will be exposed to control and layout, excavation, yard piping, concrete forming, placing and finishing, steel erection, building trades, mechanical and electrical installation, shop drawings, and other important aspects of project documentation. This position together with the project engineer’s position is used as a part of the training leading to further advancement as a superintendent and/or project manager. Performing field engineering duties well and understanding the construction process are very important to your success, to the success of your projects and the success of Western Summit.
Position Responsibilities:
S Use effective verbal and written communications skills.
S Use effective verbal and written communications skills.
S Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole number and fractions rapidly and accurately along with proficiency in calculus and trigonometry.
S Ability to use and maintain all surveying instruments necessary for construction layout.
S Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction schedules, and contract documents such as contract drawings, specifications, shop drawings, RFI’s, RFP’s, submittals, etc.
S Read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize drawings in three dimensions.
S Examine, inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies and cost saving measures that arise or may be encountered.
S Assist the Superintendent in reviewing of the Contract Drawings and Specifications with Craft Supervisors and Subcontractors, as required to assure that all work is performed in accordance with the Contract Documents and approved shop drawings.
S Evaluate directions and suggestions from other regarding safe and proper work practices. Devise and implement plans for carrying out duties of this position.
S Perform quality control inspections as required.
S Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards.
S Occasionally lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 80 pounds or more.
S Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and on uneven surfaces.
S Climb and maintain balance on concrete formwork.
S Manage subcontracts as assigned by supervision.
S Perform field and change orders and other scope of work adjustments as assigned by supervision.
S Identify work place safety hazards and take corrective action.
S Understand and respond appropriately to safety hazards and warning devices.
Essential knowledge, skills and responsibilities:
S Prefer Bachelor degree in Construction Management or related field
S 3 or more years of previous relevant construction Field Engineering experience
S Excellent oral and written communication skills
S Ability to work independently
Valued but not required knowledge, skills and experience:
S Bi-lingual Spanish (written and spoken)
S Experience working in industrial construction
S Working knowledge of Primavera/Expedition Scheduling Software
Physical demands and work environment:
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Exposure to rain, sleet, snow, dust, mud, heat, sun, cold, noise and other conditions common to a construction site. Contractual obligations may require irregular hours, out of town work, overnight stays, weekends, and holidays.
