Layfield Environmental Systems Group, an innovative and leading fabricator and contractor of specialty environmental protection systems including geomembrane covers, liners and industrial fabrics has an exceptional opportunity at the San Diego, CA Offices for a:

 

Engineering and Design Manager

 

You will be responsible for planning, organizing, staffing and leading the estimating / design department within the Environmental Systems Division. This position interacts daily with sales, plant, and operations staff and has responsibility for the performance of the estimating / design department. As the successful candidate you will never be far from your Engineering discipline as this position requires you to perform engineering duties including planning, designing, and reviewing plans / specifications.

 

The opportunity i.e. the job:

 Provide technical advice to sales and operations regarding design and construction methodologies.Resolve design issues in conjunction with the operations team with owners, customers and engineers.Oversee the preparation of estimates, proposals, and bid proposals.Review specifications and appropriate contract, schedule, and design requirements.Manage all design requirements from concept to final ready for construction drawings.Manage / mentor the estimating and design department staff with work load scheduling.Coordinate in-house and outside design contractors and / or coordinate design work.Routinely inspect construction sites and attend Pre Con meetings. Represent the company as required in sales and marketing support and interacting with owners, customers, regulators and engineers.

 

The applicant i.e. You BS Civil or Mechanical Engineering with construction industry experience.Minimum of 3 to 5 years of design construction experience.Supervision and leadership experience of a small team.Existing relationships in public and private sector.Auto Cad experience.Active Professional Engineering progression encouraged.Demonstrated problem solving and corrective action abilities.Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.Willingness to accept reasonable travel.
