Position Title: Project Executive

Job Status: Exempt and full-time



Position Overview



A Project Executive has over-all responsibility and accountability for the results of multiple projects and ensures their success.



Authority:

The position of Project Executive is assigned by the V.P. of Operations in consultation with the President, and in turn the Project Executive reports directly to the V.P. of Operations. The direct reports of a Project Executive include the staff that is assigned to each of the projects under their direction. The staff may include Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, Project Administrators, Project Engineers, and QC Managers.

Requirements:



Minimum of 10 years highly successful public works/military construction experience with a general contractor on projects in the $10 to $25 million range.



Multiple successes on projects administered by the Army Corp of Engineers and/or NAVFAC on military bases, achieving ratings of "Outstanding."



Proven track record on delivering projects on time, within budget and with high degree of customer satisfaction.



Strong, demonstrated management skills in the following areas:





Communicating – clearly conveying meaning and obtaining understanding



Planning – developing goals and strategies for future action



Controlling – measuring performance and taking appropriate action



Organizing – aligning resources to achieve goals



Staffing – selecting and developing the right people for competitive advantages



Leading – inspiring others to achieve goals





Proven ability to collaborate very well with customers, sub-contractors, vendors, upper management, peers and employees.



Proficiency in Prologue or comparable project management software

Proficiency in Primavera (P3) scheduling software



Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook/Word/Exel)



Degree in Construction Management preferred





Responsibility:

The Project Executive is responsible for the success of the projects assigned to him/her. Success will be measured based on specific goals as established by the V.P. of Operations.. The goals will relate to the vital elements of the company including Safety, Profit, and Customer Satisfaction. The value of the Project Executive is determined through his/her abilities to communicate, plan, organize, staff, control, and lead.



Safety: The Project Executive must provide the leadership and resources to ensure that each project staff can provide a safe work environment. The expectation on each project is no loss time accidents and an "outstanding" evaluation from our customer as it relates to safety.



Profit: Profit goals are established by the project team and will be agreed upon by the V.P. of Operations, Project Executive, General Superintendent, Project Manager, and Superintendent before each project gets underway. It is the responsibility of the Project Executve to provide the staff, resources, and support to complete each project at or above the profit goal. Project Executive is expected to have a strong understanding of construction accounting and the ability to forecast costs throughout the life of a project. The Project Manager will report on a monthly basis directly to the Project Executive on the financial performance of the project. The Project Executive must be able to evaluate the performance and in turn report to the V.P. of Operations on the financial performance of each project.



Customer Satisfaction: The goal for each project is an "Outstanding" evaluation from the customer at its completion. The Project Executive is expected to meet regularly or have an action plan that involves the customer to evaluate the ongoing performance of the project. Customer evaluations are as equally important as Safety and Profit. The Project Executive, while maintaining the company values, shall exercise good communication and coaching with each direct report as it relates to the customer satisfaction goal.



Planning:

A Project Executive shall participate in evaluating future projects that he/she would manage. Assistance with estimating, bidding, project buy-out, and contract negotiations is expected.



Employees are the company’s most valuable asset. It is the responsibility of a Project Executive to develop direct reports by providing coaching, opportunities for training, creating and updating career development plans, and providing performance feedback.



Staffing:

In a collaborative effort involving the V.P. of Operations and Human Resources, the Project Executive is responsible for staffing projects in a manner that will provide the result as they relate to Safety, Profit, and Customer Satisfaction. The Project Executive shall evaluate the performance of each direct report and set clear goals for correcting performance issues. Underperforming direct reports or those that do not share in the company values or express attitudes that do not align with the company culture shall be replaced. New hires shall be given 30, 60, and 90 day goals. The Project Executive shall be responsible for evaluation and follow-up as it relates to those goals. Salary adjustments for direct reports shall be recommended by a Project Executive for consideration by the V.P. of Operations.



Controlling:

A Project Executive shall work collaboratively with other Managers and the V.P. of Operations in establishing new procedures, and maintaining a program to continually evaluate and improve on existing procedures. The performance of direct reports shall be measured in a way that can be clearly reported to the V.P. of Operations. The measurements must include Safety, Profit, and Customer Satisfaction. A Project Executive is expected to make changes in personnel, procedures, resources, etc. to ensure the successful completion of each project.



The job description of a Project Executive for Straub Construction, Inc. is not meant to be all-inclusive. The purpose of the Project Executive position is to provide over site of several construction projects in order to ensure success. The means and methods for reaching the specific goals as they relate to projects and employees are expected to be continually improved upon and as such a Project Executive shall be accepting of change and a contributor to the continual improvement process.
