JOB DESCRIPTION

COMMERCIAL CONCRETE ESTIMATOR

Position Summary:

Responsible for preparing estimates of commercialconcrete project costs to ensure projects are designed and constructed withinbudget and that change order proposals represent a fair value for the workunder consideration.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

Prepares estimates for commercialconcrete and construction projects based on engineering drawings,specifications, sketches, and word pictures.

Reviews architect/engineer estimates.Contractor claims, and cost proposals for accuracy and acceptability.

Coordinates with architects, engineers,contractors, and/or project managers to establish budgets and identify mostcost-effective design considerations.

Identifies long lead items for earlyprocurements

Tracks local historical costs data andprice updates using appropriate computer software (I,e National Estimator,Golden Seal Estimator, and Estimaster 2,).

Performs value engineering services toidentify potential changes in design to keep project costs within budgetscheduled time of performance.

Performs total life cycle cost analysisto aid in determination of design considerations.

Interfaces with project managers toresolve contract billing problems/resolutions.

 

 

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degreefrom an accredited college or university in architecture, engineering orbuilding technology with emphasis in construction management, buildinginspection, or engineering, and four to six years experience in concrete costestimating; and/or 5 years experience as a Superintendent.

Must be knowledgeable in sub grade,regarding dirt after subs come in, moisture, density, movement of spoils, typesof forms, and site prep work.

Knowledge of construction and renovationterms, materials, techniques, procedures, and practices.

Knowledge of construction cost estimationtechniques, procedures, and practices, including material quantity take-offs,labor unit work hours, labor rate analysis, blueprint reading, and materialunit pricing.
