ACCOUNTS PAYABLE MANAGER

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Manage accounts payable activities of the company including supervising the accounts payable staff and ensuring that company invoices are paid in a timely and efficient manner.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

1.  Oversee the Accounts Payable function including direct supervision of a full-time staff.  Plan, schedule, and direct the work of the accounts payable unit of the organization.

 

2.  Develop and evaluate employees; evaluate performance and workloads, determine work priority; and develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring work activities.

 

3.  Research, analyze and resolve complex payment and vendor issues.

 

4.  Verify the accuracy of A/P batch output to ensure correct coding of vendor, cost center, general ledger account, invoice amount, and matching these to check or ACH output.

 

5.  Prepare reports on the status of payables.  Prepare special reports required by management including audit responses, compliance reports, payment analysis, employee performance reviews and others as assigned.

 

6.  Oversee and assist in the preparation of tax form 1099.

 

7.  Assist in the year-end closing and accrual process.

 

8.  Oversee and assist in preparing account reconciliations.

 

9.  Perform vendor analysis, expense review and analysis, and provide support of corporate procurement functions.

 

10. Perform training of staff on accounts payable related subjects.

 

11. Develop and recommend policies and procedures to improve the efficiency of the accounts payable department and to govern the payment of company bills to the advantage of the organization in terms of cash flow and discounts.

 

12. Assist in the implementation of new systems.

 

13. Interpret company policy to supervisors and employees and enforce company policy and practices.

 

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:

Requirements include understanding of standard accounting principles; AP processes, computer skills, communication skills, problem resolution and supervisory skills.  Four year business/accounting degree required.  Accounts Payable accreditation preferred.  Proficient communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required.  Successful candidate must be able to take initiative and problem solve with minimum direction.
