Wireless Systems Engineer
This position is located in San Diego, CA at the SPAWAR System Center – San Diego (SSC-SD) Facility.

Nathan Kunes Incorporated (NKI) is a small business that specializes in providing Information Assurance consulting services to the DoD and NSA. Established in 1998, NKI has developed an outstanding reputation across DoD and NSA communities by providing senior system and security engineering and software development services to various development efforts.
Principal Responsibilities:
This position involves working with 2nd and 3rd generation cellular wireless protocols, developing or enhancing new systems and protocols.
This System/Software Engineering position presents an exciting opportunity for a junior to mid-level engineer to join a proven team which researches protocols and develops new system features with NSA to satisfy an end user need. The individual will be exposed to a wide range of networking and security protocols as well as an understanding of the end system as part of the feature development.
The ideal candidate will be self motivated and be able to come up to speed on new technologies quickly. Some software development/software architecture is required for this position. Knowledge of Linux, C++ and Python programming is a plus. This position also requires the ability to describe system functions so that others can implement in software. Candidate should have effective written, oral and non-verbal (listening) communication skills. Candidate should be comfortable working with a team that is not entirely co-located in San Diego.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; equivalent experience acceptable
Required Skills:
• Strong analytical/problem solving capability
• Ability to research and design new technologies for integration into a system
• Strong written communication skills
• Object Oriented Programming, CMM software best practices
• Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance at the TS/SCI Level.
Desired Skills:
• Linux, C++, Python, GTK+, WxPython
• Experience with projects in the cellular wireless field and military systems design.
• Knowledge of TDMA, GSM, CDMA, WCDMA and CDMA 2000 3GPP, UMTS, SMS
• DSP, Variable Rate Vocoder
