Webmaster
Summary
Designs and maintains websites and sets up the School District’s interface with the internet. Plans, develops, implements and supports the use of the internet and related services. Assists in establishing policies, procedures and standards for posting of content on all District internet websites. Configures web servers, designs/develops departmental web pages as well as more interactive web applications where data is collected and written to a web-enabled database. Maintains up-to-date website content, evaluates web technology tools, and provides web publishing training to office staff. Maintains close contact with the Office of Communications and ensures that the public image of the School District remains consistent.
Position Requirements
Essential FunctionsActs as the District’s expert on website construction, design and functionality; designs and develops the architecture, layout and functionality of websites; develops the architecture and layout of complex websites.Coordinates the gathering of information or placement of web pages; advises departments of issues concerning content and presentation of information on websites; updates content and layout of web pages in a timely manner; maintains online documentation for standards. Maintains and monitors the performance of websites; troubleshoots and resolves operational problems; assures web services are always available and adequate and that web-based information is archived; assures sensitive or classified information is not inadvertently released. Provides operational support for web servers; serves as a resource to faculty and staff in planning and implementing new website/web pages. Develops templates, style sheets and other tools to assist web developers, faculty and staff in website creation; recommends and implements improvements in web workflow. Assists in the integration of District portal with other District web offerings. Provides expertise, troubleshooting, and training on the District’s CMS; coordinates and performs upgrades and maintenance of the CMS. Works on-call as required for posting emergency alerts to the District’s website. Reads and responds to Webmaster and WebSite Go e-mails and escalate as required. Attends scheduled status meetings.
Minimum RequirementsBachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university. Two years of computer-related experience which have included website design and development utilizing style sheets, Perl and/or PHP and HTML programming languages.
ORHigh school diploma or equivalent. Four years of full-time, paid, professional experience in computer programming and analysis, which has included website design and development utilizing style sheets, Perl and/or PHP, and HTML programming languages.
ORAny equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Demonstrated knowledge of:
○ one or more operating systems, preferably Solaris, Windows, Linux and OS X.web server software such as Apache, Iplanet and IIS.
○ database systems in support of content integration.
○ popular web browsers such as IE, Netscape, Mozilla, AOL, and Opera.
○ PHP and/or Perl programming language and its related technologies.
○ graphics design as it applies to website development.
○ basic composition, page layout, art and presentation packages such as PhotoShop, and Illustrator.
○ Conversion of file formats such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint into .PDF or HTML.
○ Dynamic HTML, including style sheets, templates, complex layouts, and interactive design.
○ popular multimedia delivery tools and protocols to support streaming video and audio.
○ maintaining CMS Solutions such as WebGUI, Drupal, etc..
· Demonstrated ability to:
○ install, configure, maintain, tune, analyze and optimize websites in Sun Solaris and Linux.
○ address HTML and scripting compatibility issues between different browsers and computing platforms
○ implement and manage security, privacy and authentication issues in a web-based environment
○ create web forms and scripting using languages such as Javascript, Perl, CGI, or PHP.
○ work with web design and content tools such as Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash.
○ plan and prioritize work, maintain schedules and meet deadlines
○ communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
○ establish and maintain effective working relationships.
