JOB SUMMARY:
The Programmer Analyst analyzes requirements and develops computer programs.
DESCRIPTION:
**Program Analysis
Consult with clients to gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements. Analyze, define, and document requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs. Analyze and estimate feasibility, time, and compatibility with hardware and other programs. Analyze code to find causes of errors and revise programs.
**Program Development
Develop and maintain plans outlining steps and timetables for developing programs. Research and evaluate software and hardware to assist in programming or to use program platforms. Design and code screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, printed outputs, and interfaces with other systems. Convert designs and specifications into computer code. Create test scenarios and run tests to find errors and confirm programs meet specifications.
**Program Documentation and Review
Write and maintain technical specifications. Consult with client to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs to meet needs. Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections. Write documentation or review documentation written by others that describes installation and operating procedures. Monitor performance of programs after implementation.
**Technical Assistance
Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about programs. Train end users or technical support staff to use programs.
SKILL SETS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and our user community
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, incentives, surcharge, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages
Ability to use concepts of basic mathematics to resolve business issues
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Proficiency in one of our programming languages
EXPERIENCE:
At least 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training
Managed Care or Healthcare experience is a plus
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor**s degree (B.S.) in Computer Science or MIS from a four-year college or university preferred
Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
