Technical Accounting & Policies Manager - VeriSign
This person will be responsible for evaluating the accounting and financial reporting implications of complex transactions, evaluating new accounting policies, and training business process owners on key accounting issues and related guidance. The position serves a critical role and is integral toward assuring that the corporation’s accounting practices and financial reporting are in conformity with GAAP. This position is responsible for the interpretation and application of all new and existing accounting pronouncements within the company. The scope includes assessing impacts of accounting changes, consulting with management, preparing position papers to communicate with external auditors and training internal accounting staff on the implementation of new policies. The person serves as a subject matter expert in interpreting and applying U.S. GAAP and SEC rules and regulations. The position requires excellent technical research, project management and communication skills. Additionally, the person in this position will be relied upon by people throughout the corporation to provide guidance on the proper accounting treatment for anticipated transactions. Specific responsibilities include: - Monitoring the activities of all accounting standard setting bodies, i.e, FASB, SEC, AICPA, EITF, etc., and evaluate the effect on the Company.- Planning, directing and coordinating research of technical accounting issues regarding the company’s evaluation of technically complex transactions.- Documenting white papers, position papers on the Company’s position around technical accounting topics. - Providing technical accounting support to our business units in their assessment of accounting issues.- Review and validate critical accounting policies. - Creating and presenting training and GAAP update course to accounting staff and management..- Lead or participate in special projects as necessary. Knowledge, skills, and abilities:- Solid understanding of complex accounting issues and researching U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.- Keen analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to learn new systems and business processes quickly.- Project management skills including ability to lead project teams, as required. - Detailed-oriented, organized approach to performing and reviewing work.- Ability to deal effectively with all levels of a global organization, from clerical staff to CFO and internal and external auditors. Qualifications and education:- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required.- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.- At least 6 years of demonstrated financial reporting, accounting research experience.- CPA certification required/Big 4 accounting experience preferred
