Akamai is “The Trusted Choice for Online Business.” As a System Administrator for Akamai’s Stream OS team, you will work with the engineering and customer care teams on both the existing and upcoming Stream OS infrastructure. You will work on complex distributed systems projects that implement the hardware and software platform of Akamai's StreamOS service network. You must be able to meet unforeseen innovation challenges, have the ability to rapidly understand new technologies, and be able to communicate with other technical groups within the company. You will be expected to implement networked systems that are scalable, reliable, and secure. The ideal candidate will have experience in network (down to TCP packet level) troubleshooting, perl & php programming, unix systems administration, shell programming and hardware installation & troubleshooting. You must be a self-starter and be able to manage and prioritize many tasks at any given time. You must have good communication skills, and have the ability to provide technical leadership. You must also demonstrate attention to detail and great organizational skills. You should also be comfortable working in a fast-paced technical environment. Responsibilities * Maintenance and support of existing multi-site distributed infrastructure * Implementation of best practices (security and otherwise) * Day to day maintenance of Linux based systems * Day to day maintenance of Open Source Database servers * Troubleshooting a wide variety of internal hardware and software * Excellent written and verbal communications skills * 4+ years advanced UNIX administration experience (Linux required) * 2+ years advanced application tuning * 3+ years troubleshooting complex proprietary applications and integrations * Ability to write and debug Perl * Strong DNS, Internet and IP knowledge * 2+ years PHP development experience * 2+ years experience implementing and deploying Postgres in a large scale environment – the addition of similar MySQL experience is preferred * Thrive on challenge, great at tackling several things at once * Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, self driven * Experience writing and managing system monitoring and alert scripts & applications Contact us!
