Sr. Systems Engineer

This is an exciting opportunity to join the IT team of an industry leading, agile and progressive company serving one of the most fascinating industries around, the professional television broadcast.  As a Senior Systems Engineer at Chyron you will have a strong technical understanding of the complexities of data center operations and infrastructure services in a 7x24 High Availability, SLA driven, SaaS environment.  You will help design, implement and manage the infrastructure for our customer facing online services and also provide assistance with internal IT projects and operations. You will be the first point of IT support for any incidents at our Online Services Data Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Oversee the day to day management of all data center operations, policies, and procedures

* Be prepared to respond to support operational and emergency situations 7x24 for a variety of critical systems and travel offsite as required

* Provide assistance with internal IT projects and day-to-day operations as needed

* Participate in datacenter planning activities including, reviewing, remodeling, new system construction, infrastructure upgrades or other projects as assigned

* Tune systems for optimal performance and devise new techniques to improve the infrastructure

* Plan and manage data storage, backup and disaster recovery procedures for the data center

* Ensure that operational, maintenance and emergency methods of procedure are developed and adhered to

* Maintain thorough system documentation

* Use network management tools for network health monitoring, diagnostics and reporting

* Maintain technical proficiency in computer operations, data communications, operating systems and applications

* Supervise the on-site management of sub-contractors and vendors at the data center, ensuring that preventative maintenance and emergency repairs are performed as specified and on schedule

* Carefully coordinate efforts with QA, Product Management and Software Development to ensure that the organization meets any and all SLA obligations to our customers

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

* Bachelors degree in computer operations, information technology, network communications or equivalent

* Minimum of 5 years experience working in this field

* Career path showing both significant hands-on experience in the day-to-day troubleshooting of data center technical issues and previous project management responsibility

* Cisco and/or Microsoft Certification strongly desired

* 3+ years supporting a 7x24 High Availability data center environment

* 3+ years Cisco LAN/WAN design, implementation, support and maintenance

* 3+ years Microsoft SQL Server implementation, administration, optimization, support and maintenance

* Experience with High Availability SQL Server configuration and administration (Mirroring, clustering, etc...)

* Experience with load balancing technology implementation, administration, support and maintenance

* Experience with Active Directory and Exchange Server

* Experience with network and server monitoring technology

* Strong communication skills and ability to work with as part of a team

* Strong documentation and knowledge transfer skills

* Strong orientation to detail
