The Software Project Manager is responsible for managing projects from the definition of a work package through field test, as well as the ongoing maintenance of released product versions through service packs. The position serves as a single point of contact during product development, managing cross-functional aspects of each project and ensuring a strong and seamless relationship through communications at all levels of management. The Software Project Manager works across Product Management, Software Development, Software Quality, and Quality Assurance to identify and deliver on specific project requirements through project plans, work breakdown structures, milestones, and change control procedures.
Responsibilities:
* Establish and maintain project plans, estimates and schedules for product development activities, including new product, enhancements and maintenance projects.
* Ensure that project tasks and deliverables are completed according to plan, including features, quality and documentation.
* Establish and maintain a project communication plan, including meetings, agendas, minutes, tasks, status reports and ongoing information exchange.
* Work closely with functional managers to ensure that resources are correctly allocated to meet project milestones.
* Track and report progress against the plan; recognize and act on deviations from plan, meeting with business stakeholders regularly to review project status and issues.
* Manage project issues and risks, coordinating mitigation actions to meet productivity, quality and project's intended objectives.
* Manage scope change to minimize impact to original project plan.
* Ensure processes and practices for product development are followed.
* Contribute to process and quality improvement efforts by identifying problem areas and implementing corrective actions.
* Apply and adapt policies, methodologies, tools and processes for effective project management by staying current on project management and software development practices.Required Skills
Qualifications:
* 10+ years experience managing software development projects
* Demonstrated knowledge and successful application of project management and software engineering practices is required
* Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to deal with situations where information is difficult to obtain, complex or ambiguous
* Strong desire to succeed and ability to work in a team environment
* Exceptional communication skills are a must as this position works cross functionally in a matrix management environment
* Medical software industry experience is a big plus
* Experience in Agile methodology is a plus
* Project Management certifications from either the Project Management Institute or a specialized training program encourage preferred
