Software Engineering Manager for Axiom Core Services

The individual hired for this position will be responsible for:
Team Management
· Managing a group of software engineers focused on the architecture and development of high performance and high availability services that will form the basis for future SeaChange products.
· Coordinating the activities and deliverables for a multi-disciplinary technical team, including planning, hiring, estimating, scheduling, eliminating obstacles to successful delivery of product, reporting progress, working across groups for dependencies, and enabling the development process.
· Providing managerial direction and motivating individuals to ensure team meets schedule and quality commitments. Developing and executing short and long term resource plans in line with organizational objectives and project needs
· Conducting performance reviews, mentoring, providing career growth opportunities, and recruiting for open positions.
· Identifying, implementing and enabling overall engineering process improvements
· Creating and managing budgets for their team
· Ensuring that development team has access to necessary and adequate set of tools, machines and technologies to be effective and efficient
· Drives deliverables to meet marketing requirements and meet quality standards
Technical Management
· Contributing and focusing the architectural and technical direction of SeaChange products, with focus on building up core service components to deliver common functionality across products.Working with Product Management and Engineering teams to create Core Service strategies in response to product requirements.
· Producing and maintaining/extending accurate and high quality technical documentations
· Developing and maintaining quality, modular, reusable, maintainable, expandable and easy to comprehend software
Project ManagementTechnical Project Leading for software releases – managing to Software Development Life Cycle including release planning, milestone and schedule definition, technical reviews, deliveries and issues coordination across engineering teams, using Agile methodologies.Identifying and resolving risks/issues as they arise, developing mitigation for project risks Influencing and shaping the decisions of the cross-functional teams.Participates in upfront negotiations with marketing, PM, QA and other engineering disciplines to determine requirements, allocated resources and delivery dates. Participates in discussion with other engineering disciplines (e.g., QA, SW) to arrive at an optimal (i.e., resources and time) overall schedule
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED:
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:BS in Computer Science or related field/MS/MBA preferred.Consistent track record of success in similar positions.Experience staffing and managing an engineering team, with a wide range of skill sets, through the full software product lifecycle. Mentoring skills are mandatory.Ability to create clear goals, takes ownership and is accountableDynamic person who leads by example and builds loyalty, involving others, where appropriate, in shaping plans and decisions that affect themManager who understands the balance between risk assessment and time to market realities. Ability to anticipate problems and develop contingency plans.Team player who will build bridges inter-and intra-departmentally. Recent systems/software experience with complex products, especially quickly learning complex systems that involve multi-threaded services and network communications.Proven track record of good written and verbal communication skills with customers, partners, and internal teams.10+ years technical experience, 5+ years project management experience in a leadership role, and 5+ years managerial experience.Experience in SW Tools development process desired.Working understanding of Object Oriented methodologies including prior experience in Java Development using JEE building High Availability Enterprise ApplicationsSystem level experience on Windows (NT, 2K, 2003) and/or Unix/LinuxWorking experience developing multi-threaded, asynchronous, distributed client/server applications using communication protocols such as TCP/IP or remote procedure call Must have excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills, leadership, management, influencing, negotiation, conflict resolution, team building and problem solving skills.
Previous experience with enabling communications between diverse remote sites a plusU.S. Citizen or permanent resident required.
DESIRABLE Experience:Desired educational background includes a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.Apache, Tomcat, JBoss, C++, SQL Server, MySQL, LinuxExperience using Agile Methodologies such as SCRUMExperience using Test Driven DevelopmentVideo-On-Demand, Data Communications/Telecom
