Are you a strong Software Engineer who enjoys building cutting-edge user interfaces for e-commerce that are seen and used by millions of people? Amazon's Zeitgeist team is looking for one more top notch Software Development Engineer to be a part of our development team, building website features which surface consumer buzz for the media and aid buying customers in discovering new products that suit their interests. With Amazon's vast amount of consumer behavior data we are well-positioned to be the number one place for people to go to find out what products are hot, where they are hot, and with whom they are hot.  As an engineer on the Zeitgeist team, you'd brainstorm with your teammates and product line teams to dream up new, innovative website applications and widgets to help customers discover products that they would like to buy, develop those features from top to bottom with technologies such as Java, Perl, Ajax and Flash, and launch them to the Amazon family of websites. What might you build?  How about a feature that finds microtrends such as what shoes are hot in New York City or what music is popular in Austin? The ideal candidate will have great problem solving and analytical skills, solid computer science fundamentals (e.g. data structures, algorithms, Object Oriented concepts) and be well-versed in modern web technologies such as Ajax, Flash, JavaScript and CSS. Data mining and a strong math or statistics background are a huge plus. Candidates must be innovative, creative, flexible, self-directed, and understand how to design and write highly scalable, reliablie, and maintainable code.  Preferably, candidates would have a bachelor's degree in CS or a relevant area.
