Software Development Engineer - Provisioning
Amazon.com hires people from all types of backgrounds, into positions based all over the world. We recruit the best and brightest. Why Join Amazon.com? At Amazon, we believe that every day is still Day One. A day to take a first step. A day to look forward to new challenges. And today is that day for you. It's your day to be a part of something great. Your day to make your ideas come to life. And your day to join a company that redefines itself every day. That's the energy and excitement behind Amazon. Software Development Engineer - Provisioning We own the most secure systems in Amazon, constantly working to protect the secrets of our customers. Our services are scaled to handle the massive retail traffic of Amazon and 3rd party clients, where our success is measured by the milisecond. We are distributed globally, where the speed of light is a major limitation. Finally, our services are built by necessity to gracefully handle every conceivable failure, both internal and external. Join the small group of senior engineers on the team and take a leading role in our new development. We have critical systems in need of a review, and we have new ideas which need to be turned into global services. At Amazon, you will not be merely following instructions from a senior architect. You will instead work closely with engineers of all levels to determine the direction and fate of your own designs. Personal ownership of services is not only available, but is expected. We offer senior engineers the chance to go as far as their mind and abilities can take them. You will have direct ownership over systems and high profile initiatives. You will have the opportunity to design, implement, and launch the services that will drive the next generation of Amazon’s growth. Strong Object-oriented language experience, Java preferred. Ability to work fast, both on your own, and in a group. Desire and passion to take ownership over our services, and drive your new development to completion and beyond. Understand databases, distributed systems and service oriented architecture. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. Would be useful: Experience with C++, Perl, Oracle, Unix/Linux. Experience with design patterns. Experience with high capacity / high traffic services. Experience with secure systems, particularly PCI compliance.
