Software Development Engineer - Code for highly visible parts of Amazon.com - RCX We are looking for passionate, talented, fun and inventive software engineers to join the Shopping Intent development team.  The team owns features such as Wish List, Subscribe & Save, Shopping List and Baby and Wedding Registry. We are engaged in building applications which help customers achieve many of their shopping intents such as gifting for others, items I need, items I own and think others should consider, etc.  Are you tired of being pigeon-holed, of only doing back-end development, of never getting to interact with the customers, of too much front end work (or not enough)? Come join a team that owns the whole ball of wax!  A successful candidate will be comfortable developing a system end-to-end, from gathering requirements from our customers, to front-end UI to middle tier services to database modeling. To meet these challenges, the Shopping intent team is looking for highly-motivated software engineers with the drive to solve large problems with high visibility. Our engineers are top-notch software developers who work well as a part of a team, and work well independently with the drive to follow through and deliver results. Ideal Job Qualifications: BS/MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. Experience with large scale web-based systems including servlets and portlets. Knowledge of presentation layer technologies such as JavaScript and AJAX is desirable. Hands-on experience programming in Java/C++, preferably in a Unix/Linux environment. Deep understanding of object-oriented design and design patterns. Knowledgeable in database design and SQL. Practical experience with software engineering best-practices and code refactoring. Deep understanding of distributed systems and communication protocols. Solid experience in implementing and tuning high performance systems. Good instincts for understanding customer needs and building innovative usable solutions.
