Senior Software Systems Engineer - Defense Programs
MITRE, a Fortune “100 Best Company to Work For” in 2007, seeks a Software Engineer to apply software design and development expertise to various projects of a multi-disciplinary nature. Key Functions· Work directly with warfighters to develop and integrate innovative solutions to meet their mission critical problems.· Provide hands-on software design and development expertise for multiple programming languages and system environments· Collaborate with MITRE staff, project sponsors, and military personnel to devise practical solutions to problems. · Communicate technical information in the form of proposals, analysis results, and demonstrations to current and prospective project sponsors. · Provide field engineering support at experiments and exercises conducted by project sponsor and partners. Requirements· BSCS, BSCE or equivalent and 1 year experience or MS or equivalent.· MSCS, MSCE or similar discipline and at least 3 years of hands on software development or lab experience with multiple programming languages and system environments desired. · Military experience considered a plus.· Learn and apply new technologies to ever changing problems· Expertise in principles of object-oriented software design and programming.· Experience with Java, C/C++, Perl, and/or other modern programming languages· Knowledge of hands-on experience with Internet technologies such as HTTP, AJAX, XML, web services, and related emerging web standards & technologies.· Ability to write and present technical material in the form of proposals, white papers, technical reports, and presentations.· Understanding of basic relational database design, SQL, and database access technologies such as JDBC, Hibernate, HiveMind, etc.· Knowledge of experience with XML technology such as XSLT, XML Schema, and XML Namespaces.· Ability to thrive in a diverse team environment consisting of MITRE colleagues, project sponsors, defense contractors, and military or other government personnel.· Knowledge of IP networking, satellite communication systems, tactical data networks, software defined radios, radars, and/or sensor systems is a plus.· Problem solving and troubleshooting skills· Oral and written communication skills· For this position, MITRE will consider only applicants with security clearances or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
