Senior SQL DBA Job Qualifications Ability to understand and analyze complex issues and information relating to database management. Experience with database design, maintenance and tuning. Significant experience with analyzing and troubleshooting the interaction between databases, operating systems, and applications particularly in the areas of performance and resource usage. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent. 8+ years work experience during which the primary focus of responsibility has involved a broad range of database management, administration activities, with development experience being a plus. 5+ years work experience with SQL Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Experience with and knowledge of database programming concepts including Structured Query Language, stored procedures, triggers and views. Working knowledge of using databases in Client/Server and Wide Area Network (WAN) environment. Extensive knowledge of current IT and computer science concepts, issues, practices, methodologies, and trends, particularly those relevant to database design and administration. Excellent problem solving and strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Proven ability to lead and mentor MySQL & DB2 experience a plus. Proven ability to work independently and with a project team. Excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communications skills. Ability to establish work priorities. Flexible and able to adapt to changing business requirements. Knowledge of retail industry a plus. Essential Job Functions Maintain database integrity and security. Evaluate conditions and needs and recommend improvements regarding database design. Handle storage management, performance, monitoring and tuning of the database. Monitor database system resources and performance. Implement all required backup and recovery procedures. Manage availability, backup, restoration and recovery systems with the database Maintain database user logins, passwords and privileges. Implement change control procedures for appropriate DBMS. Coordinate database design with IT development staff and generate database definitions. Assist IT staff in the deployment of developed database software. Coordinate database system upgrades with IT staff, end users and vendors.
