Senior Program Manager

Position Description:

RealNetworks, Inc. is a rapidly growing, cutting edge technology, web based digital music, online gaming and streaming company headquartered in Seattle, Washington. The Ecommerce Platform Group is seeking a highly motivated and talented Senior Program Manager with a strong interest in evolving industrial strength and business critical e-commerce services and APIs.The Senior Program Manager will be responsible for planning, specification, scheduling, and coordination of development projects. The Senior Program Manager will work very closely with other program managers, product marketing, development and QA teams, and other RealNetworks product and technology teams.Candidates must have solid technical/system analyst skills to allow productive project definition and communication with developers. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to juggle large numbers of projects, show a great attention to detail and have excellent project management skills. A strong practical business sense is essential as is a demonstrated ability to work effectively with many teams to deliver complex projects on time. Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and diplomatic interpersonal skills. Skills must include expertise managing and coordinating development for a large commerce transaction processing environment or equivalent. Ability to keep projects on track and project teams focused on project priorities is a must. Development projects may include regular shorter duration releases (weekly) and medium/long term initiatives. Minimum experience requirements include at least 5 years program management experience on large, high availability, 24x7 transaction processing systems. At least 2-3 years of development or QA experience is essential as well. Essential Functions:1. Program management of ecommerce services. Includes assistance with high level scoping, requirements definition and creation of functional specification documentation - 40% of Time2. Project management of commerce-related projects. Management of schedules, deliverables, issue tracking, status reporting, and release management Close and ongoing interaction with development and QA staff - 35% of Time3. Project coordination and prioritization with other RealNetworks organizations - 15% of Time4. Helping plan the future of RealNetworks’ e-commerce systems and build product roadmaps - 10% of TimeKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Minimum:• Strong technical ability. Be able to grasp existing system knowledge and apply knowledge to gather requirements for system extensions• Excellent project management skills and ability to juggle multiple projects.• Be able to write effective requirements and use case documents.• Process oriented, with an eye for keeping projects on track and teams positively motivated.• Great attention to detail and follow through on various tasks• Be able to effectively communicate with other PGMs, Development, QA and Product Management groups• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills• Good understanding of modern multi-tier architecture and distributed systems.• Good understanding of XML and Web services oriented development Preferred:• Knowledge of and experience with Linux, Java, Tomcat, Apache.Education, Certification, and/or Training:Minimum:• B.S. in Computer Engineering or Computer Science or related discipline.Preferred:• PMI Training or certification is a plusExperience:Minimum:• At least 5 years PGM experience in 24x7 large online transaction processing system environment• At least 2 to 3 years development or QA experiencePreferred:• At least 5 years PGM experience in ecommerce development environment is a plusPhysical Requirements/Working Conditions:• Fast paced development cycles – lots of simultaneous projects• 50% of time spent at desk using PC/Laptop• 50% of time meetings and team interactionRealNetworks, Inc., is proud to offer our full time employees an extensive benefits package; including vacation, medical, dental, vision, 401K, an employee stock purchase program and subsidized commuting options.
