SENIOR JAVA DEVELOPER JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Description:

 

The Sr Java Developer (SJD) will be responsible for building custom extensions to FirstBest’s Underwriting Management System (UMS) for a customer engagement.  The JD will work closely with the custom development team (usually a Solution Architect (SA) and Business Analyst (BA)), FirstBest’s Engineering team, and potentially the customer development team to design and implement the required custom components needed for a successful implementation.  The SJD must have hands-on experience with the development of software products, the development and implementation of large enterprise business solutions, and demonstrated success in integrating new solutions with legacy systems.  The SJD will report directly to the SA on the customer project.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·  Creating of design documents for custom components required for a particular engagement

 

·  Development and testing of custom components

 

·  Support rollout of software across multiple customer environments

 

·  Work closely with customer PSO team in gathering business requirements

 

·  Work with Engineering team to identify possible features that should be implemented in the core UMS product

 

·  Understand UMS product features and architecture when conversing with team and customer

 

·  Create software that follows company and industry standards with high quality

 

·  Work with QA team to isolate and resolve issues in a timely fashion

 

Key Competencies:

 

·  Good understanding of developing in an Agile environment

 

·  Proven Java coding abilities

 

·  Good verbal and written communication skills

 

·  Demonstrated ability to meet schedule commitments with high qualities

 

·  Understanding of Java, J2EE, APP Servers, XML technologies, and scripting language

 

 

·  Ability to work with development team members in a highly collaborative, team oriented fashion

 

 

Work Experience:

 

·  3-8 years experience in Java and J2EE technologies

 

·  2-8 years experience developing enterprise applications

 

·  Experiencing developing Java Server-side software products

 

·  Insurance domain experience is a plus

 

Education Expectations:

 Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or equivalentMaster’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent is a plus
