Senior Applications Developer - LODESTAR, JAVA

Summary of Responsibilities

The Senior Applications Developer will lead a development team providing services for the ERCOT Commercial Business Operations application suite and related interfaces; work directly with the technical support team to process changes, fixes and requests; minimize risks to the stability of the application when processing changes; and review, test and implement new application-related tools or utilities to meet business requirements and continuously improve performance.Essential Job Functions

·          Assist in the design of solutions in a variety of ERCOT business domains using structured methodologies such as RUP

·          Develop software with a high degree of quality, according to ERCOT SDLC standards

·          Unit and Integration Test design and execution for software solutions developed within the department

·          Accurately document solutions and produce deliverables in a timely manner (designs, tests, release documentation, etc.), according to ERCOT documentation standards

·          Actively provide process, SDLC, and documentation suggestions to management for improvements

·          Maintain development, test, and production environments in a manner consistent with ERCOT policies, utilizing source code control, environment maintenance, and package deployment best practices.

·          Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for department projects delivered to production environment, to business users and Operations 

·          Develop and Maintain automated testing solutions for team

·          Perform integration testing and system testing for delivery of products

·          Design low-level solutions based on received requirements in a variety of ERCOT business domains

·          Supply technical leadership/mentoring for other team members Experience and Educational Requirements

·          Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science - Master’s Degree or equivalent experience is preferred 

·          Minimum 5 years experience in design and development of application software using JAVA, LODESTAR, PERL, XML, and Oracle PL/SQL technologies in an MS Windows/Unix environment

·          Experience working with some Open Source/Framework technologies such as Ant, Maven, JUnit (or other automated JAVA build and testing tools), Hibernate and Struts 

·          Experience with some of these tools and technologies: Tomcat, JBoss, JRUN, CVS, and Eclipse 

·          Experience designing and architecting systems using UML

·          Experience working in environments that use a variety of SDLC methodologies such as Agile, RUP, etc.

·          Ability to learn and comprehend complex technical subjects

·          Excellent organization and communication skills

·          Minimum 2 years experience in development team management or leadership

·          Application development project leadership experience is required

·          Strong customer service focus

·          Texas Electric Market business process and engineering knowledge is preferred

·          Electric utility market deregulation/restructuring experience knowledge is a plus
