Registry Technical Liaison
The Situation
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has an immediate job opening for a Registry Technical Liaison at its offices in Marina Del Rey, California USA. This is an opportunity to join a global organization. ICANN is a nonprofit public benefit corporation responsible for the global coordination of the Internet's system of unique identifiers. These include domain names (like .org, .museum and country codes like .UK), as well as the addresses used in a variety of Internet protocols. This position reports directly to the Chief gTLD Registry Liaison.
The Position
The primary responsibilities of this newly created position are to serve ICANN as a technical resource on registration services, DNS security issues and Internationalized Domain Names, support New gTLD program (see http://www.icann.org/en/topics/new-gtld-program.htm) including DNS Stability issues and development of a Backend Registry Operator Qualification program, and review of registry services proposals (see http://www.icann.org/en/registries/rsep/). The Registry Technical Liaison will also be responsible for the development, implementation, testing, and on-going operational expertise for gTLD Registry Failover Project (see http://www.icann.org/en/registries/failover/), as well as reviewing and providing counsel on Registry Data Escrow requirements and specifications. Finally, the Registry Technical Liaison will be responsible for the development of system to compile, store and maintain registry information including monthly reports, and support implementation of policies impacting gTLD registries and other ICANN agreements.
The Organization
ICANN is a nonprofit public benefit corporation responsible for the global coordination of the Internet's system of unique identifiers. These include domain names as well as the addresses used in a variety of Internet protocols. Computers use these identifiers to reach each other over the Internet. Careful management of these resources is vital to the Internet's operation, so ICANN's global stakeholders (Registrars, Registries, Internet user groups, etc.) meet regularly to develop policies that ensure the Internet's ongoing security and stability. The community of individual Internet users participates in the policy development work of ICANN. Currently, more than 100 groups representing the views of individual Internet users are active throughout the world.
The Ideal Candidate
This position requires strong technical skills and advanced technical knowledge of registry operations, the registry-registrar model and protocol, TLD zone files, name servers, systems and registry functional and performance specifications. Experience with Internationalized Domain Names, DNSSEC, data escrow, and continuity planning is also useful for this position.
In addition, analytical and problem solving skills are an essential requirement; good self-organization with the ability to stay task focused; must be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced business environment while maintaining attention to detail. Candidates must be self-motivated, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, lead and drive projects, have strong time-management skills, and be able to work collaboratively. Some international travel may be required.
