Quality Assurance / Staff Software Engineer

 

As a Staff Software Engineer member of the Quality Assurance team, you will be part of a growing team of diverse specialists that ensures that only the best products are produced. The advertised position is to work in Concord, MA, on the Sybase IQ product.  Sybase IQ is a highly optimized analytics server designed specifically to deliver dramatically faster results for mission-critical business intelligence, data warehouse and reporting solutions.

 

Purpose of the Position:

Designs, develops and implements tests, result evaluations and rework for all product components in support of delivery of quality software products that meet customer specifications.  Provides technical leadership requiring specialized expertise, creativity, initiative and sound business and technical judgment in one or more product areas and related testing technologies.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

- Designs, implements, documents and maintains complex test systems, subsystems and application programming interfaces.

- Identifies and advocates for new, enhanced or replacement processes to achieve the objectives.

- Determines approach, design, implementation for tests of product components.

- Works on complex issues requiring specialized expertise, creativity, initiative and sound business and technical judgment

- Serves as the technical lead for complex projects.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Education and Related Experience:

BS/BSCS & 7-9 years or MS/MSCS & 6-8 years experience in Computer Science, MIS or IT

 

Required:

 

- Quality Assurance or development experience is required.

- Must be able to write detailed test plans, test scripts and execute test scripts.

- Demonstrated ability to work closely with product and engineering management to develop and maintain a mutual understanding of the deliverable for each assigned project or task, and uses this understanding to participate in the creation of test specifications.

- Must have worked on the full product life-cycle of design and implementation through customer shipment, ideally in a large team environment and on products for use in commercial software development situations.

- Must have experience as a technical lead.

- Experience with relational databases and SQL is required.

- Experience with UNIX shell scripts or Windows batch procedures.

 

Desired:

- C/C++, JAVA, ODBC, ISQL, and dbisql

- Expertise with Automation tools such as Silk

- Familiarity with Sybase databases, such as Sybase IQ and ASE

- Knowledge of other DBMS, such as Oracle and DB2

Experience developing multi-user or workgroup style applications is an advantage
