QA Lead- Sony Online Entertainment

Based in San Diego, Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) has an array of games in development at studios in Austin, TX, Denver, CO, Seattle, WA, and Taiwanincluding The Agency, Free Realms and DC Universe Online. These new titles are being designed to push the envelope of online entertainment quality, innovation and delivery.

SOE, the company responsible for the pioneering, global EverQuest® entertainment phenomenon, has developed and/or published a number of ground-breaking and genre-defining games, including EverQuest®, EverQuest®II, Star Wars Galaxies®, PlanetSide®, The Matrix Online™, EverQuest® Online Adventures, Champions of Norrath™, Untold Legends™ and Field Commander™.

QA Lead Tester

Requirements:BA/BS or equivalent in Computer Science/Related Field OR 2+ years of QA experience in the software development industry Demonstrated prior experience with project management on a team level Expert knowledge of Excel Experience in managing bug workflow within a defect tracking software tool Experience in the QA test process on any gaming platform or hardware Working knowledge of the software development process (SCRUM, Waterfall, Milestone, etc.) Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to provide proper feedback on test team performance Strong analytical, leadership and organizational skills Able to interpret high and low level design documentation and create appropriate test cases (ad hoc direction, positive and negative) Demonstrated ability to recognize, diagnose, and report hardware vs. software defects and bugs Intermediate knowledge of various competing products and titles within the video game industry market Working knowledge of PC and/or PlayStation hardware Team player, able to work well with others Available to work ANY shift Any combination of experience/training to demonstrate possession of specific job skills Expert knowledge of DevTrack – Preferred Working knowledge of C++, Linux, Unix, Java, HTML – Preferred Working knowledge of the SCE TRC – Preferred Working knowledge of Perforce (or any other related version control software) - Preferred All requirements are necessary to qualify for the position unless noted

 

Responsibilities:Manage, Coach and Task assigned Test Group Main point of contact for the Development team within the QA Department Assure Game Updates and titles are fully tested prior to launch Management and maintenance of bug database Act as a liaison between primary QA team and other internal SOE departments Game Update and Live Title Launch recommendations and reports from a QA perspective Manage creation and implementation of high and low level test plans for assigned title Report personnel issues with QA Supervisors Work with the QA Engineering Group on automated test design, creation and tool implementation Test status reports for Development and SOE Executive Management Create and execute Milestone Acceptance Tests Problem solving on a Project Management level Share acquired game knowledge with fellow QA testers and new hires Mentoring QA Tester 1s on test direction, general testing process/protocol and tools Apply a proactive approach in the QA Process on a consistent level Journeyman testing – Must be able to think outside the scope of the test plan when appropriate (ad hoc testing, documenting negative test cases, etc.) General game play testing
