QA Analyst I (4024)

QA Analysts participate in the software development process by planning, designing, and executing tests that ensure products meet the feature, performance, time, cost and quality needs of our customers. They keep current on relevant existing and emerging technologies. They participate in the ongoing definition and improvement of processes for software testing. They identify and understand all aspects of assignments including assumptions, milestones, dependencies, and requirements. They effectively communicate designs, plans, status and issues throughout the appropriate groups. As a team lead, they perform project management tasks such as creating and updating the project schedule, assigning tasks to team members, overseeing the team's work, and mentoring junior team members.

Responsibilities:

Software Test Team Lead (if required)Assign, monitor, and manage the work of a software quality team potentially made up of temporary and regular employees located in Austin and offshore. Work closely with Program Management and the QA Director to complete, monitor and manage software test schedules. Write detailed test plans. Attend all project team meetings. Mentor and develop junior software QA members. Inform the Director of project status on a regular basis.

User Acceptance Testing (if required)Complete and execute a plan for UAT for assigned projects.

Software Test DesignWork with the Software Development Team and Curriculum and Instruction to best understand product architecture and requirements for building effective test cases. Design and document new test cases that exercise the functionality of the product at a level such that they would be executable by anyone on the team.

Software Test ExecutionPerform manual and automated black-box software testing. Work with members from other teams (engineering, C&I, etc.) to understand the expected functionality of the product. Accurately and clearly report action requests (ARs) using the defect tracking tool following departmental standards.

Will be expected to work occasionally 'after-hours' in order to accommodate 'Live Site' and LAUSD release requirements.Required Skills

Ability to work effectively with little direction.Ability to analyze software requirements and/or user stories in order to create test cases that exercise product functionality.Excellent written and spoken English skills.Ability to lead others.

Desired Skills:College degree (preferably in Computer Science) or equivalent experience.Fluent in Spanish.Required Experience

2 or more years previous software test execution experience or 2 or more years experience in another technical software role such as customer support or software development.Experience in current software testing methodologies.Experience in software quality assurance practices, standards, and metrics.

Desired Experience:Previous software test creation experience.Experience leading a team with a success record.Experience with Agile methods.Experience with software performance, load, and stress testing.Experience with Web Services, Microsoft IIS, and XML standards.Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, or other databases.
