Akamai - Powering a Better Internet. About the Team Akamai is looking for a smart, passionate, problem-solver to join one of its exciting engineering teams as a Principal Software Engineer. This team is focused on building a set of new, exciting, and innovative service offerings. We are looking for someone that has the motivation and capability to move at a startup pace, tackle complex problems, design and develop compelling solutions incorporating their own ingenuity, and produce Akamai-class systems. As a member of this growing, fun team, you will be involved with all aspects of software development in a dynamic industry. Are you ready for the challenge? About the Job You will be responsible for the architecture of the system underlying several exciting product offerings. You will be both a leader within the team and a hands-on developer helping to realize your vision. In addition you will be asked to: * Drive a long-term architecture and scaling plan while being mindful of interim milestones and solving short-term problems, often by writing code * Interface with technical leaders from the rest of the company * Build a data security model and implementation plan; work with internal security teams * Own and drive all team architecture reviews; be a reviewer in external architecture reviews * Take on the most difficult problems with enthusiasm; drive solutions through to completion * Grow into the Architect position to work with other Akamai architects; represent the team in company forums We are interested in smart, passionate people who solve problems. The ideal candidate also meets the following qualifications: * 7+ years experience with C/C++ development in Linux/Unix environment * Extensive experience working in or with the advertising industry * Experience designing a scalable platform with low-level and web service APIs * Experience with implementing advanced algorithms, including those involving large-scale systems * Skill in planning, prioritization, and dependency management Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly recommended: * Machine learning * Database programming and management * Knowledgeable in areas of network programming and protocols Other Information * Is US Citizenship required: No * Is a Security Clearance Required: No If yes, applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation & must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
