Performance Software Engineer
Qualifications/Requirements :
5+ years of performance and/or virtualization development experience. IO virtualization experience a big bonus.
- Excellent in 'C' programming and experience with X32/64 assembly language
- Highly skilled at debugging and profiling operating systems and system level programs;
- Proficient in shell programming
- Proficient in writing and debugging os modules and device drivers.
- Indepth understanding of computer architecture, x86/64 instruction set, and BIOS.
- Professionally and diplomatically represent AMD during high-stress situations in partner labs and in customer presentations.
- Creates and proactively delivers precise technical communications and problem summaries by email and telephone.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of training and experience plus seven years related experience. Requires system software development experience in operating systems with demonstrated expertise in the area of system software design and development.
- Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
Key Job Functions
1.Develop and post kernel code/patches to address functional and performance issues for AMD processors. Develop and integrate new kernel level routines and patches into a target OS build. These routines and modules support bug fixes and new and enhanced processors and technology.
2. Work with the appropriate engineering groups to ensure optimal performance and quality through appropriate regression.
3. Report engineering problems encountered in integration back to the appropriate AMD engineering function and work collaboratively to identify and develop solutions.
4. Troubleshoot bugs reported against AMD technology in distributions. Identify problem areas, recommend potential solutions, and work collaboratively with the appropriate AMD engineers to develop solutions and/or workarounds.
5. Drive partner's development efforts to prioritize and optimize on AMD technology. Ensure that partner engineers are kept abreast of new and enhanced AMD technology such that timely support for these features is readily available in the partner's software distribution. Similarly, ensure that AMD engineers are keenly aware of the needs of the partner so that competitive technology and solutions are delivered by AMD to the market.
6. Work closely with the Alliance Manager in support of AMD business objectives.
7. Identify and drive opportunities to establish industry and market leadership and standards in the virtualization market that support our joint initiatives and objectives.
