Position Concept:
The mission of a Network Technician is to provide shift coverage for a seven by twenty-four hour Network Operations Center located in Lincolnshire, IL. The Technician’s main purpose is to monitor and proactively check the System Network, Switch Applications, Billing Application and Customer’s connectivity. This includes implementing problem determination and ‘root cause’ analysis; and/or executing routine and/or standard operating procedures necessary to continue a high quality of service to the company and its customers.
Essential Functions:
· Work independently or as part of a shift team to monitor systems and network components, perform advanced problem determination and restoral service, and manage services from internal support resources and vendors
· Provide Level 1 to select Level 2 problem determination and support to XATA/CrossBridge Solutions and their customers
· Open problem tickets to record details of problems and track resolution.
· Assume ownership of problems until: a) resolution by Technician; b) resolution by internal support staff or c) resolution by vendor representative
· Use basic to intermediate problem determination skills supplemented by various tools and utilities to resolve system problems. Work with various support groups to identify “root causes” and detailed analysis. This requires independent action by the Technician to resolve problems and communicate with team members, other Operations groups, support groups, service vendors and customers
· Responsible for understanding and communicating all standard operating policies
· Responsible for writing, dissemination, and training team members in new policies and procedures
· With given skills or skill development, be responsible for performing on the job training to team members in use of current technologies and problem determination concepts when necessary
· Responsible for performing routing system, switch application, and billing application checks
· Responsible for developing basic to intermediate knowledge, through independent study programs and/or on the job training, of the following:HP S-Series (Tandem) Guardian commands and utilities Basic SQL and database concepts Basic knowledge of communication products X.25 and TCP/IP Event interpretation associated with system and network events Telephone operator duties, customer care, device registration order fulfillment and shipping/receiving
Experience and Skills Required:
· Technical Bachelor’s Degree desired but not necessary with appropriate skill set and experience
· Use of Windows desktop platforms
· Use of Microsoft Office software products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
· Basic understanding of Computer OS principles and concepts
· Familiarity with networking desired
· VBA skills a plus but not required

· Must be flexible to work a 2nd or 3rd shift
