The Position – Network Solutions Engineer

The Solutions Engineer Consultant plays a key role on the AlterPoint Professional Services team by successfully deploying and customizing NetworkAuthority. The Solutions Engineer will work with a team of AlterPoint professionals with the mandate to design, develop and implement technical solutions that exceed customer expectations for AlterPoint’s network governance software. This person will be responsible for the development and management of long-term technology solutions designed to enable superior business results.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide technical expertise to the implementation team, including technical requirements, detailed design, configuration, integration, quality assurance testing, user acceptance testing, architecture and/or capacity planning, deployment support, and user training/mentoring.

· Actively partner with the engineering and product teams to deliver technical commitments to clients, including personalized white papers, and customized solution architectures.

· Design, implement and maintain software components to integrate network device inventory with network fault, help desk, and asset management software including BladeLogic, HP OpenView, Micromuse NetCool, CiscoWorks, EMC SMARTS, Remedy, etc.

· Travel 50-75%.

 

Qualifications and Technology Experience

· 7+ years of successful technical development or solutions engineering experience.

· Previous successful experience delivering technology solutions to large enterprise customers.

· Experience working within a development and/or consulting organization.

· Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.

· Solid troubleshooting and technical problem analysis skills.

· Thorough knowledge of IT and network management best practices (ITIL, SOX, HIPAA, etc.).

· Experience working in or with a multi-tiered network engineering/operations organization and knowledge of large customer data center technologies, processes, and best practices.

· 2-3 years systems administration experience on Linux, Solaris, and Windows-based systems.

· Willingness to learn HTML, Java, JavaScript, XML, Java Server Pages.

· Some scripting experience in a professional environment with Perl preferred.

· Working knowledge of SQL, database administration tasks, ETL, and data model extensions.

· Vendor certification for NMS products or network devices preferred (e.g. CCNA, CCIE, Nortel/Juniper/Riverbed, routers/switches/firewalls)
