Mid-Level Network Engineer

 

Position Description:

 

The candidate will be responsible for engineering duties of a large Cisco based world-wide service provider type network.  

 

The responsibilities include design enhancements to the existing network and the development of new network capabilities.  This person will lead projects through the full lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, test, documentation and coordination with the implementation team members.  In addition, the candidate must be able to perform cost/benefit analysis of customer requirements and be able to recommend the appropriate enhancements to the existing network.  Requires the ability to work several projects simultaneously and be able to prioritize work accordingly. 

 

Ability to communicate technical design solutions to peer Engineers and to Management is a must. 

 

Understanding other Engineer designs, how they impact the AGN core network, and making necessary recommendations for any changes is required. 

 

This candidate must be able to resolve network problems, failures, and performance issues.  After familiarization with the network and procedures, the candidate will need to be able to share 24x7, on call responsibilities with other members of the engineering team.

 

This position may lead to a permanent staff position with our client.

 

Required Experience:

 

The candidate should have 8 and 10 years of network engineering experience in a Cisco environment.  Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with WAN (ATM/Frame Relay/MPLS), routers, switches, TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP/OSPF), ISDN dial backup and IP addressing. 

 

Experience with deployment and design of networks supporting a minimum of 1000 geographically distributed Cisco routers.  Extensive understanding of routing redistribution, route maps, and policy routing to control traffic among multiple processes using BGP, OSPF and static routes.  In addition, working knowledge of MPLS and QOS is necessary.  Candidate should have Cisco professional level certification.  The qualified candidate must be proactive, have strong team building skills, and be able to work both independently or and as part of a larger team.

 

 

Desired Experience:

 

Independently defines and performs complex and challenging tasks involving leading-edge technology where little precedent exists. Requires the ability to modify or adapt theoretical concepts or approaches in one or more areas. The candidate should be able to work across several disciplines, provide technical leadership in their specific area across several major organization units, and interface with high-level customers.

 

Education or Certification Requirements:

 

Typically requires a Masters degree in a technical area, CCNP certifications, or demonstrated experience.
