Linux and Open Source Project Engineer
Pantek is hiring motivated engineers, who are passionate about working in a fast-paced and growing company environment where solving new and different problems, and helping clients all over the world by supporting qmail, Postfix, Apache, MySQL, Postgresql, iptables and other Linux and Open Source software, is the way of life.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Provide Linux and Open Source Tech Support to Clients around the globe
- Learn through practical application, all of our Supported Software to a Master Level
- Learn the Pantek Pipeline software system and internal tracking technologies
Provide availability (usually twice per week) on our on call rotation schedule in order to assist clients at any time, day or night, who are having business critical server outages
- Stay up to date with new Open Source software and technologies
This challenging position requires excellent problem solving skills and the ability to think quickly on your feet. A strong working knowledge of at least three of the following applications: Apache, BIND, iptables, MySQL, Nagios, Postfix, Qmail, Samba, and/or sendmail is required. Experience with C, Perl, PHP, Java, or other programming languages is a plus.
The majority of work is performed for clients remotely using ssh and other network access software, and results and issues are discussed on the phone, directly with clients. As such, confidence and excellent telephone skills (etiquette, ability to speak clearly, ability to communicate effectively) are essential for this role.
Additional skills required include diligent time tracking, planning, documentation, and ability to communicate and work closely with other team members on small to medium size projects. A bachelors degree is preferred, but not required if equivalent experience is demonstrated.
