Position Description

 



We require an experienced Solution Architect with significant knowledge and commercial experience in architecting and leading development of next generation web-based solutions using Ruby on Rails/Java.  This person will lead all application development activities (Agile/SCRUM) under the direction of the CEO. This will encompass analyzing requirements, consulting on and architecting solutions, developing designs, and technical team management through to delivery, including the management of off-shore development resources.  



 

The successful candidate will have the willingness to roll up their sleeves and contribute to on-going development and delivery efforts with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will also possess sufficient business acumen and experience to contribute to the business development and strategic planning activities of the senior leadership team.



 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

This role will provide expert architectural consultancy and leadership at asenior level:

 

Lead application analysis, architecture, design and development Direct the activities of our off-shore contract development resources Take an active role in communities (internal interest groups) Provide estimation and planning for projects

 

Qualifications and Experience

 



The ideal candidate will have commercial experience architecting and building enterprise solutions and broad knowledge of enterprise level infrastructure, platforms, middleware technologies, databases and application servers.



 

Required Skills

 

Significant knowledge and experience with Scrum and Agile development methodologies 3+ years managing off-shore development projects with proven measurable success Thorough understanding of development platforms and tools with specific focus on LAMP/LAMJ/ROR technologies Solid understanding of the principles and practice of Web Services, Service Oriented Architectures and Model-View-Controllers Good understanding of key Internet technologies and protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP/S, DNS, SMTP, FTP, SSH etc. Experience in the design and development of web-delivered Software-as-a-Service offerings Experience architecting and developing “business-drivenâ€� multi-tenant solutions that are highly scalable and available with a solid understanding of N-tier open architectures including presentation, business and persistence levels Expert  knowledge and experience in relational database design, development and technologies Strong knowledge of leading integration technologies and techniques Knowledge of capacity planning, load testing and tuning Understand architectural best practices and capable of applying them across a variety of technologies Apply architectural and engineering concepts to design solutions that meet operational requirements Demonstrate effective application of service-based, object-based and component-based modeling Demonstrate an understanding of application security
