Software Engineer / Senior Software Engineer

 Essential Duties and Requirements

This is a full-time position for a creative self-starter, split between software development (90%) and LINUX system administration support for the company (10%).

 Development Activities

-  Use the latest web development technologies (Java, AJAX, Ruby, EXT, Flash, etc.) to develop highly interactive web-based applications for the financial services sector.

- Develop an industry leading financial instrument search engine, which employs advanced heuristics to efficiently and accurately determine the type of search being used, normalize common industry abbreviations, and deliver relevant results.

- Develop various data interchange applications and applets to facilitate the efficient movement of critical data among Perspective Partners, its vendors, and its clients.

- Enhance and maintain a mission critical financial instrument database which includes both persistent and volatile (updated at least monthly) data elements. Important tasks include cleaning, normalizing, enhancing, indexing and organizing data from various sources.

- Fill key developer/architect role in implementing the second generation of our premier financial services web application.  You will be changing the face of the 401(k) industry!

 System Administration

Responsibilities include networking, email server, company Website, documentation facilities, deployment of web applications to Tomcat, moving and verifying MySQL databases and ensuring correct execution of various automated jobs

 Essential Education and Skills

-  BS in computer science, with min 5 years experience

-  Languages: Java, HTML, XML, SQL, JavaScript, Bash, Wiki

-  Tools: Linux, MySQL, JDBC, Servlets, ANT, Maven 2, Tomcat, SVN

-  Ability to work independently, yet seek input and work well with other technical and non-technical professionals

-  Knowledge of the financial domain is a significant plus

-  Green Card and US/Canadian citizens only

-  Preference is contract-to-hire candidates
