Java Application Developer II

Position Summary:This position is responsible for program coding tasks primarily related to custom application systems.  This will include architectural design, software development, and unit testing.  The developer is responsible for following recommended development processes and standards.

Principal Responsibilities:Develops, tests, implements and supports custom developed application systems.  Applications are created using Java frameworks Modifies application systems to deliver defect fixes and enhancements based on assigned tickets Works with defect control software to manage and log solutions for tickets and tasks assigned Estimates the number of hours needed to deliver a solution for a defect or enhancement request. Responsible for use of project workplans and project status reporting for their projects on a weekly basis. Works with software development control software such as Source Safe, CVS and Team Foundation Server Develops documentation including appropriate policies & procedures for each assigned project. Works on project teams to deliver a fully functioning application system. Designs data layouts and creates XML files for data integration to other application systems. Works closely with database architects and developers to determine where business logic will reside based on business and performance requirements Resolves trouble tickets through software Defect Tracking change control system.  Updates system with relevant facts and statuses related to the fixes. Develops enhancements to applications based on approved software enhancement requests, using change control system to track change tickets completed

Accountability/Decision MakingThis position requires and provides a level of freedom to act to produce solutions in application technology.  This position will make decisions and determine and support their technical designs. This position is responsible for contribution to outcomes and products within the application technology group and has a level of accountability to results and meeting of timelines for themselves and their team members. This position will have team leadership and project management responsibilities This individual will conduct software code reviews and approve of code and adherence to standards before software is deployed.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position does have team leadership and project lead responsibilities, including facilitating meetings and discussions, status reports, timeline updates, estimating hours to complete, and overviewing colleagues daily tasks. This individual is a relatively senior person on the application development team who will be responsible for conducting code reviews or more junior developers

Education:A Bachelors degree is preferred in Computer Science, Business Administration or related discipline.  Commensurate experience in lieu of a degree will be considered Appropriate ongoing professional education in application development related and /or business leadership disciplines is preferred

Experience:Minimum of 3 years of application development experience; five years is desirable Two years using Java 1.3 or later is required; three to five years is desirable One year Hibernate or Spring experience is desirable Full system life cycle development, system quality assurance, business process redesign is desirable Consultative skills and the ability to work with clinical development and operations personnel to understand and deliver appropriate business solutions based on described functionality is required

Technical Skills:One to two years experience with Hibernate, Spring, or MVC patterns is desirable Three to five years using Java 1.3 or later is preferred; two years is required. Application development using one or more of the following tools is helpful: HTML, Javascript, XML, XSLT, Websphere, Eclipse, JDBC. Full system life cycle development, system quality assurance, business process redesign and high levels of customer interaction are desirable

Communication Skills:This position requires a moderate level of competency in both oral and written communication The experience and ability to communicate with all levels of company staff is required
