DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW

The Equity Research group within the Equities business area of the investment bank differentiates itself by offering in-depth analytical frameworks, proprietary methodologies, and unique data sources that leverage the Firm’s global platform and help clients meet their investment goals. The equity research teams apply their expertise and creativity to analyze nearly 2,500 companies worldwide. Macro-economic and strategy teams further enhance this comprehensive company research with thematic insights in an ever-shifting terrain.

 

The Equity Research IT team within the Global Application Development group is part of the investment bank’s broader Information Technology area and provides Equity Research staff with access to an extensive global Research database and an integrated Research application suite that includes research authoring tools, approval workflow applications and an advanced electronic distribution capability.

 

The Research database and application suite also help ensure that Research publications and other products are compliant with the extensive legal and regulatory requirements associated with the creation and distribution of equity research. The Equity Research IT team provides business analysis, application design and development, third level support and maintains supporting vendor relationships. The technology used includes Sybase, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Exchange, UNIX/LINUX and Java, WebLogic and Perl. The database and applications reflect extensive in-house development effort and are deployed to Equity Research staff around the world.

 

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:

Developer role for Equity Research applications:

The scope of the developer role involves significant development effort working in a small application development group deployed globally. The current employee vacancy is for an experienced, hands-on Java developer with up-to-date knowledge of the latest development tools.

 

Initial focus is on maintaining and enhancing existing production applications supporting Equity Research, running under UNIX/LINUX and based on Java/WebLogic/PERL with interaction with Sybase databases. The role involves significant third-level application support and contact with Equity Research staff, research users within the investment bank, selected vendors and in some cases customers of the investment bank. The role will provide exposure to many aspects of the Equity Research business and should provide good opportunity for continued learning.

 

The role will involve participating in several SDLC phases. The candidate should be geared towards leveraging the existing framework. The candidate should be a hands-on developer in the Construction phase and able to participate in the System Integration Test phase.

 

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES (eg shifts, travel overseas, hours):

 

The role will include collaboration with staff in Europe and Asia and some work time will need to overlap with Asia hours for development discussions, weekly status reporting or hand offs.

 

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• 4yr Bachelors degree in technical field (computer / mathematics science, engineering)

• Advanced degree preferred

• Degree in computer science

 

WORK EXPERIENCE/BACKGROUND:

 

• Minimum of 5-9 years of experience out of which 2-3 years experience in application development in Financial Services Industry

• Object Oriented Design

• Hands on coding

• Multi-tiered application designs

• Experience supporting Equity Research

• Experience coordinating with offshore development teams
