Department Systems/Linux Administrator

Systems Administrator

 

The Ohio State University department of Biomedical Informatics is seeking a highly motivated Systems Administrator with 4+ years of experience in a lead role administering primarily Linux servers and workstations.  Additional experience managing Windows servers and desktops is preferred.

 Key Skills Required

·Knowledge and experience managing key Linux network infrastructure components, including NFS, NIS, and DNS

·Apache, PHP, MySQL, and other web-related technologies

·Data backup management and general disaster recovery

·Network security, including wireless access security, BSD / Linux firewalls, VPN, and remote SSH access

·Systems planning, including identification of hardware requirements, installation and inventory, documentation of systems

·Exchange email administration

·Service monitoring

·Experience with Virtual Server Environments(VMware, VMware ESX)

 Duties

·Provide technical support and troubleshooting for department user’s workstations and laptops, and general department network issues

·Identify and mitigate potential security threats; respond to unauthorized access; develop and implement acceptable use and access policy

·Manage server room facilities in Graves Hall,and servers in Graves, KRC, and the Medical Research DMZ

·Collaborate with medical center IS team to design, implement, install, and manage machines and facilities in the Medical Research DMZ and the Biomedical Research Tower

·Maintain hardware and software license inventory, documentation of systems

·Monitor and maintain services such as email, web services, and other core services

·Availability to respond to network and systems problems nights and weekends. Applicant must be willing to be on call in the event of a systems emergency.  This may require carrying a pager or cell phone. Applicant must be available to fix the situation within a reasonable amount of time

·Communicate technical ideas to non-technicalpersons verbally and in writing
